Random History Bytes 127: Amelia Throckmorton - Royal Descendant - Part 02
----------

Today's post on the genealogy of Amelia Throckmorton (1843-1877) of Little Egg Harbor Township leading to her royal and noble ancestors is just a place holder while further research continues on one or two of her close New Jersey ancestors. Online trees show a path, but it seems to be lightly documented. Stronger documentation is being sought.

Meanwhile, the Throckmorton-Lippit-Taylor Burial Ground in Monmouth County, New Jersey contains an example of the kinds of confusion in parts of Amelia's lineage. Also see its FindAGrave page.

It gives the wife of John Throckmorton (1601-1682) as Rebecca Colville. Digging deeper into the published Throckmorton genealogy, this appears to be incorrect.

The WikiTree page on this John Throckmorton gives his wife's name as Farrand. WikiTree pages are not perfect, but they do attempt to do due diligence to accuracy. Those of us who stand on the shoulders of other genealogists also attempt to do due diligence in choosing which non-primary sources to trust.

The book Ancestors and Kin 1 says: "He m. Rebecca (probably Covill, but this has not been definitely proved)."

Considering the publications examined so far, it seems that speculation guided the Colville surname, which when repeated, came to be fact. Later, deeper dives into the genealogy which turned up more authoritative records, seem to have settled the surname Farrand.
