Not knowing where to park on my first visit to
Old Christ Church Shrewsbury,
I ended up parking behind
Wisdom Tree Yoga & Healing Arts east of the graveyard on Sycamore Ave.
There was a drive into the back of the Christ Church
Cemetery from there, but I decided to walk in. As I discovered, that road does lead
to a parking lot in the cemetery. The "best" entrance would have been on Broad Street
(Route 35) just south of the graveyard. 20-20 hindsight.
The Allen House
is diagonally across the street intersection (Broad & Sycamore) from Christ Church.
The Shrewsbury
Quaker Meeting House
is across the street from Christ Church.
It can be seen in the background of several of the photographs below.
Shrewsbury is the oldest Quaker Meeting in New Jersey.
As I now know, the back portion of the cemetery (the first part I walked through) is
actually the Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
As you will see below, many of the Throckmorton wives were buried under their Throckmorton maiden name, as the wife of their husband.
They were likely very proud of their Throckmorton lineage.
Some dates and names in captions below are from FindAGrave or other sources.
